Czech power company CEZ AS (BAACEZ.PR) has received building permits to erect 55 windmill power generation units in various locations in the country, that together will have an installed capacity of up to 150 megawatts, the company said in a statement Wednesday.
CEZ will erect the first windmill unit next year and the company said its goal was to have installed generation capacity of 100 megawatts from windmills by 2012.
Currently only a negligible amount of CEZ's total output comes from renewable sources, and of that most is generated in hydroelectric plants.
Almost 50% of CEZ's power is generated using coal, while about 40% comes from the company's two nuclear power plants.
