Kazakh Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sauat Mynbayev said Tuesday the government's ban on the export of oil products will last until Sept. 1, Interfax news agency reports.

Mynbayev told reporters Tuesday the ban would be introduced to bring consumer prices for diesel and gasoline under control.

Interfax said Mynbayev couldn't provide the date on which the ban would take effect.

Prime Minister Karim Masimov revealed plans for the ban at a government meeting Monday.

Kazakhstan has huge oil and gas resources, but soaring costs for fuel are having a knock-on effect on the country's agricultural sector and consumer prices.
