French oil giant Total (TOT) said Wednesday that it has made a new gas and condensate discovery in the Alwyn Area of the Northern North Sea, close to the Jura field that recently came on stream.

The field, to be known as Islay, lies in block 3/15 of the UK sector of the North Sea, some 440 kilometers north-east of Aberdeen, in a water depth of 120 meters.

The discovery well was drilled to a depth of more than 4,000 meters into the Brent reservoir and during testing it has produced 1.22 million cubic meters of gas per day or 8,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day including condensates.

Total is the operator of Islay with a 100% interest.

In this region, Total is already the 100% owner and operator of the Alwyn North, Dunbar, Grant, Ellon, Nuggets, Forvie North and Jura fields.
