Russia's state gas company OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) hopes to attract major international energy companies as partners for projects on the Yamal Peninsula under the same terms as the Shtokman field, the company's Deputy Chief Executive Alexander Medvedev said Wednesday.

Gazprom, which plans to unlock waste natural gas deposits in the country's Arctic region, earlier this year chose France's Total S.A. (TOT) and Norway's StatoilHydro (STO) as operating partners for its giant Shtokman field located in the Barents Sea.

Royal Dutch Shell (RDSB.LN) has already agreed with Gazprom to study the possibility of constructing a liquefied natural gas plant on the Yamal Peninsula.

Yamal's gas resources, which are mostly controlled by Gazprom, are estimated to hold over 30 trillion cubic meters.

Russia's Arctic region is seen as one of the last frontiers, where large untapped hydrocarbon deposits are still available for international energy companies.
