High-level Iranian and Russian officials will soon hold talks on expanding bilateral relations, the Iranian oil ministry's official Shana news Web site reported Monday.

There is very large potential for Russia and Iran to expand relations, particularly in the oil and natural gas sectors, Shana cited Hossein Noghrekar-Shirazi, Iran's deputy oil minister for international affairs as saying in an interview with Iran's Fars News Agency.

Noghrekar-Shirazi said senior delegations from the two countries will meet for discussions later during this Iranian month, Shana reported. The Iranian month began on June 21.

"Russia, more than other countries, has realized that Iran enjoys a great potential in the gas sector and gas cooperation with Iran will bring an impressive opportunity to decrease its expenses," Noghrekar-Shirazi said, Shana reported.
