Seventy staff at Tricastin nuclear plant in southern France have been "slightly contaminated" by a low dose of radiation that escaped from a pipe, power firm Electricite de France SA, or EdF, (1024251.FR) said, The BBC reports on its Web site Thursday.

EdF says Wednesday's incident wasn't connected to a uranium leak two weeks ago that forced the temporary closure of a reactor at Tricastin.

The company said sensors detected a rise in the radiation level while maintenance work was being carried out at a reactor that had been shut since July 12. EdF added that the latest incident wouldn't affect people's health or the environment, the BBC says.
