LONDON (Dow Jones)--The BP PLC (BP) operated Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan has restarted exporting gas into the South Caucasus Pipeline after it was shut down as precaution during the Russia-Georgia conflict, a BP spokesman said Thursday.

Oil flows through the Baku-Supsa pipeline, which also passes through Georgia, remain suspended, the spokesman said.

The SCP continued to flow gas from Georgia into Turkey throughout the shutdown. Many gas pipelines are able to use their high internal pressure to continue flowing even if gas is no longer supplied into one end.

A conflict between Russia and Georgia erupted over the weekend over South Ossetia.
