The Kurdish Regional Government, or KRG, in northern Iraq said Wednesday it decided to postpone a scheduled groundbreaking ceremony for the Kurdistan Gas City project indefinitely until all contractual disputes are ironed out.

"We would like to inform you that this ceremony has now been postponed until further notice," the KRG said in a statement posted on its Web site.

The KRG said the ceremony was adjourned because it needed to finalize contractual matters and plans "in an agreed form with all the parties that might become involved in this important project."

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was originally scheduled to take place on Sept. 21.
