Russia's state-controlled gas giant OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) said Friday it has no plans to buy a 20% stake in Spanish oil company Repsol YPF SA (REP).
"Gazprom neither had nor has plans to buy a 20% stake in Repsol," a spokesman said.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov set off a political storm in Spain when he said Wednesday Gazprom was interested in buying the 20% stake in Repsol which construction company Sacyr-Vallehermoso (SYV.MC) has put up for sale.
Gazprom declined to comment until now.
