Polish gas monopoly Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGN.WA), or PGNiG, said Thursday that Russia's OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) has offered to increase gas supplies to Poland to compensate for reduced deliveries via Ukraine.

PGNiG spokeswoman Joanna Zakrzewska said she could not comment on when it would begin or the size of any increase.

Last week, PGNiG stopped receiving gas from Rosukrenergo, a Swiss-based trader jointly owned by Gazprom and two Ukrainian businessmen, which was eliminated as an intermediary following a deal between Gazprom and Ukraine to end a dispute, which caused a halt in Russian gas exports to Europe via Ukraine.

Supplies from Rosukrenergo amounted to 24% of Polish imports via its eastern borders.

Zakrzewska said that the supply situation remained stable but difficult with PGNiG's storage facilities, which can stock some 13% of national gas consumption, filled at over 50%. That's down from 80% a month ago when the gas crisis erupted.
