The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, or SOCAR, said Wednesday it increased its oil output 1.2% on the year to 746,310 metric tons in January, according to the Prime-Tass news agency.

SOCAR's onshore and offshore oil output was at 619,170 tons in the period, down 2.5% on the year, the company said. The remaining 127,140 tons were produced by joint ventures and consortiums set up by SOCAR and foreign oil companies.

The company also produced 700.71 million cubic meters of natural gas in January, up 9.8% on the year, the company said.

In 2008, SOCAR produced 9.337 million tons of oil, up 6.1% on the year, and 12.472 billion cubic meters of natural gas, up 25% on the year, the company said earlier.
