French utility GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) aims, with its partners, to build "one or two" EPR nuclear reactors in the U.K, a company executive said Thursday in a presentation.

In February, GDF Suez and Spanish peer Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC) announced a partnership to jointly develop nuclear power stations in the U.K. along with Scottish and Southern Energy PLC (SSE.LN).

Pierre Clavel, head of the company's Europe division, said the alliance aims to develop "one or two" EPRs in the U.K. with its partners.

The EPR is a nuclear reactor designed by French nuclear group Areva SA (CEI.FR).

In another presentation, Dirk Beeuwsaert, the company's executive vice-president in charge of the Energy Europe and International business line, said GDF Suez could eventually play a role in building new nuclear power stations in the U.S.

Beeuwsaert said there are regulations designed to ensure U.S. companies are in control of nuclear facilities located in the country and that he sees new nuclear power capacity in the U.S. being built by consortia of companies.

"Indeed, it's possible to have a place" in such a consortium," he said.
