The country produced 42.149 million metric tons of oil in August, Interfax reported, citing data from the TsDU-TEK department of the Industry and Energy Ministry.

In the first eight months of the year, Russia's production totaled 326.652 million tons of crude oil and condensate, up 0.4% on the year.

Russia's overall oil output in 2008 totaled 488.12 million tons, averaging 9.78 million barrels a day, up 0.9% on the previous year.

Russia's natural gas production plummeted 19.1% in the first eight months of the year to 359.585 billion cubic meters, including 43.35 billion in August, Interfax reported.
