Russian gas major OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) will boost its natural gas supplies to Poland by more than 7% starting 2010, Polish daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports Friday citing an unnamed source.

According to the daily, Russia will boost its deliveries to Poland to 8 billion cubic meters a year from the current 7 billion cubic meters. The daily adds that Russia is obliged to increase deliveries to Poland using the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline under a long-term Polish-Russian gas agreement.

"Nobody can say this officially since it's a trade secret, but in the agreement valid until 2022 the Russians are clearly obliged to increase deliveries starting from 2010," the source is quoted as saying.

The Polish government has been hoping since the beginning of the year to complete the talks with Russia on additional gas supplies starting in 2010.

The country needs to buy more natural gas from 2010 due to the expiry of an earlier contract for deliveries through Ukraine. Poland's gas monopoly PGNiG (PGN.WA) is in negotiations with Gazprom to increase supplies.
