German utility RWE AG (RWE.XE) said Friday it plans to invest around EUR1 billion in the construction of an offshore wind farm in the German part of the North Sea.
German utility RWE AG (RWE.XE) said Friday it plans to invest around EUR1 billion in the construction of an offshore wind farm in the German part of the North Sea .

In a written statement the company's renewable energy unit RWE Innogy said it plans to build the Nordsee Ost wind farm 30 kilometers off the coast of the
island of Helgoland .

The wind farm is expected to have a total installed power generation capacity of 295 megawatts, RWE Innogy said.

Nordsee Ost is expected to be operational in 2013, it added.

Earlier Friday, the
U.K. announced successful bidders to develop 32 gigawatts of offshore wind energy, including RWE.
