Kazakh prosecutors are probing BG Group (BG.LN) and Eni SpA-led (E) consortium, developing the giant oil and gas condensate field Karachaganak, for compliance with labor and migration legislation, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office said Thursday.

"There's a probe on compliance with labor and migration regulation," Nurdaulet Suyundikov told Dow Jones Newswires in a phone call. He said he didn't know any further details about the probe.

The consortium also includes Chevron Corp. (CVX) and Lukoil Holdings (LKOH.RS) and is currently in dispute with the Kazakh government over $1 billion export duties it says it shouldn't have paid.

The Kazakh government is seeking to change tax regimes for the country's largest oil and gas projects, including Karachaganak, citing its desire to bring taxation in line with the current legislation.
