Finland 's Teollisuuden Voima Oyj still sees a risk that the EPR-type nuclear reactor that French nuclear group Areva SA (CEI.FR) is building for it won't be operational by the 2012 target date.

The project has encountered cost overruns and delays.

While TVO sees a risk it won't be ready in time, the delivery date depends on the supplier, TVO Vice President and Treasurer Lauri Piekkari told reporters on the sidelines of a nuclear conference here.

Despite the problems with TVO's first EPR project, OL3, the company would consider the reactor model for future projects, he said.

And there is "no indication that it wouldn't meet Finnish safety standards," he said.

Piekkari declined to comment on the arbitration process with the supplier, except to say, it is ongoing. Areva's CEO has said the French company has made adequate provisions for its losses at the Finnish site and recently raised the prospect of "positive surprises" if its arbitration efforts are successful.

EPR is a trademark of Areva. Before becoming a brand in its own right, it stood for Evolutionary Power Reactor.
