State-controlled liquefied natural gas producer Qatargas said Tuesday it had appointed Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Bin Jassim Al-Thani as its new chief executive.

In an emailed statement, Qatargas Operating Company Limited, better known as Qatargas, gave no reason for the departure of former CEO Faisal Al Suwaidi.

Prior to his appointment, Khalid Al Thani was the director of Ras Laffan Industrial City , the statement said. Qatar is the world's largest exporter of super cooled natural gas.
