India 's junior oil minister said Monday the country hasn't dropped the Iran-Pakistan-India transnational gas pipeline project and continues to work on the project's details.

"We are trying our best that the pipeline reaches
India ," Jitin Prasada told lawmakers in the upper house of parliament.

The project spans three countries and discussions on several technical aspects are continuing, he added.

The project to build the 1,600 mile pipeline has been in the works since the mid-1990s but is stuck amid disagreements over pricing
Iran 's gas, tensions with Pakistan and U.S. sanctions on Iran .

India won't conclude the project until it is fully convinced about the safety issues, the geographical points of entry and exit of the pipeline on the borders of Iran and Pakistan , as well as other security measures, Prasada said.
