Greece 's dominant electricity company Public Power Corp SA (PPC.AT) said Friday that it plans to buy six wind parks via its unit PPC Renewables from the BCI group of companies.

The transaction is for the purchase of "three wind parks in operation with a total capacity of 24.65MW and another three under development with a total capacity of 48MW," PPC said in a statement.

PPC underlined that the contract hasn't been signed yet and the final acquisition cost will be determined after the completion of financial and legal due diligence.

PPC has previously said that it plans to invest about EUR2 billion by 2015 on renewable energy to replace its dependence on lignite generation.

Other than environmental sensibilities, lignite generation will become very expensive for PPC since steep CO2 costs will be imposed by European Union law from 2013 onwards.
