Brazil 's auction of as many as 10 hydroelectric dams may take place in mid-December, the state-owned energy research corporation EPE said Wednesday.

The auction, for licenses to build as much as 3,700 megawatts of hydroelectric capacity, will likely include the 1,820MW
Teles Pires dam, EPE President Mauricio Tolmasquim said in Rio de Janeiro .

Brazil 's environmental regulator Ibama has yet to set a date to review plans for the Teles Pires dam in order to provide the needed licenses, Tolmasquim said.

In addition to the
Teles Pires dam, three other hydroelectric projects on the Teles Pires River may be up for auction, Tolmasquim said earlier this month. The auction may also include five dams on the Parnaiba River in the northeast and the Santo Antonio do Jari dam in Brazil 's Amazon region.

The winning bids are those that offer to sell energy at the lowest price.
