The European Commission, Poland and Russia might reach an agreement on natural gas supplies, and the rules to run a gas pipeline, in the next ten days, although there are still some elements of concern, a commission spokeswoman said Monday.

"We think that in the next ten day there will be another meeting where hopefully we either come to an agreement, or we are very close to it." Marlene Holzner, spokeswoman for Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger said during a routine press briefing.

However, she added some elements of the potential accord are not yet in line with European Union legislation.

The commission said last month it is examining a proposed natural gas contract between
Poland and Russia that includes provisions on how a pipeline across Poland --which is called Yamal and carries Russian gas to Germany --would be run.

The commission is concerned that the accord wouldn't comply with European Union rules, mainly because it would not let third parties freely access and use the pipeline.
