French utility Electricite de France (EDF.FR) said Wednesday it is utilizing all its means of production and is buying in supplies to help it meet a surge in demand for electricity in France , as a cold snap and snow storms sweep through the country.

EDF said it has 51 of its 58 nuclear reactors on line, as well as other means of power generation, like thermal and hydroelectric. The company normally has several nuclear reactors down for maintenance and servicing.

France has been in the grips of a cold wave and snow storms over the past several days, with the trend likely to continue at least over the immediate term.
