BP PLC (BP) shut down its Wytch Farm oil field in the U.K. in November following a small oil leak on a pipeline, but should restart the field shortly, the company said in a statement Thursday.

"No oil left the site and there was no environmental damage," the statement said. BP describes Wytch Farm as the largest onshore oil field in
Western Europe , but its production before the shutdown was a relatively modest 18,000 barrels a day.

BP has replaced the small section of pipe that was the source of the leak. "Production had been shut down as a precautionary measure. We also used the opportunity to undertake other inspection and maintenance works," the company said.
