German prosecutors said Thursday they are conducting an investigation against one current and four former employees of nuclear-power company Areva NP, as well as three consultants, in a case linked to possible bribery and breach of trust.

The investigation is set to reveal whether employees created slush funds outside
Germany worth a double-digit million-euro amount between 2002 and 2005 and used that money for bribery, the state prosecutor for the Nuremberg-Fuerth region in southern Germany said in a statement.

As part of the probe, 31 premises were searched on Tuesday within
Germany and the Czech Republic .

Areva NP is majority-owned by
France 's Areva SA (CEI.FR), while a 34% stake is held by German conglomerate Siemens AG (SI). Siemens plans to exit the venture.

Areva said it is closely cooperating with the authorities.
