French oil major Total SA (TOT) will invest alongside Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) in a liquefied natural gas terminal in Dunkirk, contributing 10% of the EUR1.5 billion investment, Chief Executive Christophe de Margerie said Tuesday.

Total's CEO made the comment to reporters as he left a round table event here on
France 's energy policy.

Total attracted much ire in the
Dunkirk region recently, after deciding to transform its Flanders refinery into a storage unit. The company has sought to reduce its refining operations in Europe amid weak market fundamentals.

Earlier Tuesday, EDF confirmed its plan to invest in the Dunkirk LNG terminal.
