Libya 's rebel National Transitional Council wants to send its finance minister to the next meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and has ruled out oil official Shokri Ghanem, a spokesman for the NTC said Wednesday.

Speaking to Dow Jones Newswires, Mahmoud Shammam, a spokesman for the council, said sending Ghanem, Libya's top oil official who recently left government-held Tripoli for Tunisia, is "no option at all." Another rebel official had previously said he would like the rebel body to be represented by Ghanem if it is confirmed the oil official had defected to the opposition.

But Shammam said "we have a finance minister in charge of oil, Mr [Ali]Tahrouni."

Asked if the rebels have contacted OPEC, which is set to meet in
Vienna on June 8, Shammam said "not yet."
