China is likely to face a power shortage of 30 million kilowatts this summer, with particular troubles in the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu and the metropolis of Chongqing , state radio reported Friday, citing National Development and Reform Commission Vice Chairman Liu Tienan.

Daily electricity output is likely to hit or surpass 15.5 billion kilowatt-hours when it peaks around late July to early August, up 11% or more from last year's peak, Liu said in the report.

The NDRC and
China 's energy administration will "soon" approve thermal-electricity or power-grid projects that can ease supply problems in areas like Chongqing , Shanghai , Guangdong and Shandong , Liu said, according to the report.
