The chairman of Eni SpA (E) on Monday welcomed the reopening of the Libyan market following the latest developments in the ongoing fighting in the North African country, Italian newswire MF-Dow Jones reported.

"Libyan sales were around 13% of the total before the beginning of the fighting," Eni Chairman Giuseppe Recchi said Monday on the sidelines of an event.

Recchi said the fact the latest developments are taking place before the winter season "is very positive."

Eni's quarterly results took a hit from the loss of Libyan output. At the start of
Libya 's civil war in mid-February, Eni had the largest operations of any foreign energy company in North Africa , with hydrocarbon output of about 280,000 barrels a day of oil equivalent. Its current Libyan production is around 50,000 BOE a day, used for the local population.
