Poland may stop setting the prices of natural gas for industrial clients by the end of next year, said Marek Woszczyk, head of the country's energy market regulator.

The regulator expects to publish a plan for gas market deregulation in early 2012, he added.

The European Commission earlier this year said Poland should deregulate its gas market as soon as possible or face a lawsuit.

Polish state-controlled gas firm PGNiG SA (PGN.WA) said Wednesday its move into power generation through the purchase of assets from Sweden 's Vattenfall AB was a way to reposition itself ahead of the market deregulation.
