Gerard Mestrallet, the chief executive of GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) said Friday the French power company is currently discussing changing the formula for setting natural gas tariffs for consumers and companies.

"These discussions are continuing to look for a new formula. I can't say more than that," Mestrallet told reporters.

Gas tariffs in
France increased 5.2% on April 1, and were slated to jump an additional 7.5% on July 1 however the latter rise was cancelled by the government. Mestrallet said he expects the discussion to be over soon.

Beside his job at the helm of GDF Suez, Mestrallet is also the chairman of the association Paris Europlace, which promotes
Paris as a European financial center.

"As chairman of Paris Europlace, we have looked at all the measures taken by public authorities, from the
Paris exchange and the banks to strengthen the financial structure of French banks. This structure now seem adequate," he said.
