Russia may start shipping natural gas to South Korea by pipeline through North Korea in 2017, the Interfax news agency reports Wednesday citing the head of Russia 's state gas firm.

"It can be expected that deliveries of Russian pipeline gas to
South Korea will begin in 2017," said OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) Chief Executive Alexei Miller.

Gazprom is in talks with Korea Gas Corp. (036460.SE), or Kogas, to supply up to 12 billion cubic meters of gas a year, and has started talks with
North Korea to build a pipeline across the Korean peninsula.
