French energy minister Eric Besson will meet Jan. 9 with the heads of French nuclear groups to discuss how to implement the additional safety measures recommended by France 's nuclear safety watchdog Autorite de Surete Nucleaire Tuesday, his office said.

Besson "notes with satisfaction that all of the French nuclear installations audited by the Autorite de Surete Nucleaire show a safety level sufficient enough to keep up operations," the minister's office said in a statement. Yet "this level of safety must be increased," Besson is also quoted as saying.

Besson will meet with the executives of state-controlled power giant Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR), which owns and operates all of
France 's 58 nuclear reactors, as well as the executives of state-controlled nuclear engineering firm Areva SA (AREVA.FR) and nuclear public agency Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique, which is Areva's majority shareholder.
