Romanian companies OMV Petrom SA (SNP.RO), of which the Austrian oil and gas company OMV AG (OMV.VI) owns 51.01%, and OMV Petrom Marketing SRL, a 100% subsidiary of OMV Petrom, were fined a total of EUR117.1 million by the Romanian Competition Council, OMV AG said Tuesday.

MAIN FACTS:

-The Romanian Competition Council informed the companies of the fines after the conclusion of an investigation over the withdrawal of the retail product Eco Premium, an unleaded gasoline pre-mixed with lead substitute, from the Romanian fuels market.

-The anti-trust body imposed a fine of EUR85.2 million on OMV Petrom.

-OMV Petrom Marketing SRL has been fined EUR31.9 million.

-OMV said OMV Petrom and OMV Petrom Marketing SRL think the fines imposed are not justified, and both companies will challenge the decision in court.
