Ecuador 's state-run company, Petroamazonas, expects to increase its oil production 3% to about 160,000 barrels per day in 2012, the company general manager, Oswaldo Madrid said Wednesday.

Madrid also said during a press conference that the company plans to begin oil production in block 31 next year at 18,000 barrels per day.

Block 31 has 200,000 hectares, mostly within the
Yasuni National Park , which Unesco has declared a world biosphere reserve.

Block 31 is expected to produce a maximum of about 25,000 barrels per day in 2014.
