Sonangol's Iraq oil project remains under force majeure following an attack last year, a director with the Angolan state company said Tuesday.

Speaking to Dow Jones Newswires on the sidelines of an International Energy Forum summit conference in
Kuwait , Sebastiao Gaspar Martins said "right now we are still under force majeure. We are still reevaluating the situation."

Sonangol signed agreement with
Iraq in 2009 to upgrade two fields in the Nineveh area of Northern Iraq .

The current paralysis of the project is a set back for the international plans of the African oil giant, and underscore the persistent risks of operating in
Iraq .

Under current plans, Sonangol would start producing 50,000 barrels of oil a day from around 2013.
