Gazprom said Friday it plans to increase natural-gas exports to Turkey after deliveries from Iran were halted due to a pipeline explosion.

The Russian gas giant "has always compensated for the occurred deficit and has always found ways to up gas exports above the previous applications," company spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said.

Turkey--Russia's second largest gas market after Germany--asked Gazprom to increase deliveries after an explosion disabled the Iran-Ankara BOTAS pipeline, which carries 27 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Turkish officials said the cut will last up to five days.
