BP PLC (BP) has downplayed a report that it has been snubbed by Abu Dhabi 's national oil company in preliminary bidding for rights to develop the emirate's largest onshore oil fields.

The
U.K. energy giant said talks were still ongoing about bidding for acreage in Abu Dhabi , after Petroleum Intelligence Weekly reported that it had been excluded from the early pre-qualification phase.

"Constructive discussions are happening at all levels. This is all part of doing business," said a BP spokesman.

According to the report July 9, BP didn't receive a three-page letter inviting companies to submit bids for rights to the Bu Hasa, Bab and Asab oil fields, which are all part of the Abu Dhabi onshore Oil Operations, or Adco, concession.

However, Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), Total SA (TOT) and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB) were all invited to take part, the report said, citing unnamed sources.
