Romanian energy output fell 1.8% on the year to 11.45 million metric tons of oil equivalent in the first six months, due to declining production in the hydropower and nuclear sectors, official data showed Wednesday, news agency Mediafax reports.
Hydropower output decreased 21.8% on the year to 7.32 billion kilowatts hour, while nuclear energy production was down 3.3% to 5.45 billion KWh, the statistics institute INS said.
Romania's top hydropower generator, Hidroelectrica, Tuesday activated its force majeure clause on electricity deliveries for the second time in less than one year, due to a prolonged draught. The company filed for insolvency earlier this year and said it would undergo reorganization over the following 18 months.
Thermal power production in Romania rose 2.3% on the year to 15.5 billion KWh in January through June, while wind farm production more than doubled to 1.18 billion KWh, from 568.1 million KWh in the same period of 2011.
Romania's primary energy resources fell 2.8% on the year to 17.26 million tons of oil equivalent in the first six months, the data showed.
Electric energy resources were down 3.2% to 25.5 billion KWh, largely due to a 3.9% decline in production.
Romanian final power consumption reached 26.8 billion KWh in January through June, up 1.5% from the same period of 2011.
