South Korea 's imports of liquefied natural gas in July rose 22.5% from a year earlier to around 2.76 million metric tons, according to data released Thursday by the Korea Customs Service.

Coal imports increased 3.3% in volume while falling 18.6% in value to 10.66 million tons and $1.3 billion, data on the customs service's website showed.

The value of LNG imports in July jumped 44.3% to $2.26 billion from $1.57 billion last July, the data showed.

On Aug. 1, preliminary data from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy showed the value of combined gas imports--comprised of liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas--was 28.5% higher on year at $2.71 billion last month.
