Oil output in Azerbaijan fell 7.56% in the first eight months of 2012 compared with the same period the year before, to 29.3 million metric tons, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic , or SOCAR, said Friday.

That was down from 31.5 million tons at the same point in 2011.

The country's natural gas production fell 1% to 17.5 billion cubic meters, which was 185 million cubic meters less than at the same point a year before.

In 2011,
Azerbaijan 's oil output was 45.4 million tons, or 10.6% less than in 2010, while natural gas production dropped by 2.3% to 25.7 billion cubic meters.
