Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili met Monday with Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to discuss the resumption of international talks over Tehran's atomic program, a diplomatic source said.
"Jalili wanted to come to Turkey to discuss the latest developments on the Iranian nuclear issue," the person told AFP on condition of anonymity.
The official noted that Turkey is "doing its duty to promote dialogue" between the Western powers and Iran.
The so-called P5+1 contact group made up of China, France, Russia, the U.K., U.S. and Germany have asked Iran to immediately stop enriching uranium with fears that Tehran might be developing nuclear weapons.
Iran rejects the allegations, saying its nuclear program is a peaceful project that aims to produce energy for the Islamic nation.
Turkey has many times been the venue of meetings between the parties since the last negotiation process started earlier this year, with a major meeting held in April and a lower-level gathering in late July.
The P5+1 and Iran made no breakthroughs in the last row in talks in Moscow held June 18 and 19.
