South Korea's imports of liquefied natural gas in August rose 16.2% from a year earlier to around 2.35 million metric tons, according to data released Monday by the Korea Customs Service.
Coal imports increased 5.7% in volume while falling 15.5% in value to 11.5 million tons and $1.38 billion, data on the customs service's website showed.
The value of LNG imports in August rose 29.4% to $1.9 billion from $1.5 billion last August, the data showed.
On Sept. 1, preliminary data from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy showed the value of combined gas imports--comprised of liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas--was 16.6% higher on year at $2.33 billion last month.
