Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501.TO) is in advanced talks to purchase
liquefied natural gas supplies from North America to help defray high
import prices as the country moves to phase out its reliance on nuclear
power, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing company officials.
North American natural gas prices have dropped to just over $3
per million British thermal units (mmBtu) compared with around $13 per
mmBtu in Asian markets, the report said.
