Egypt has proven oil reserves enough for 17 years, while its gas reserves can last for 20 years, the country's State Information Service, or SIS, reported Monday citing oil minister Osama Kamal.

The government has no intention of reducing subsidies for the poor or limited-income categories, Mr.Kamal said, according to SIS.

Separately, the oil minister said the North African country has strategic reserves of oil products for 15 days, the official news agency MENA reported.

Egypt imports about 25% of the 265 billion Egyptian pound ($42.77 billion) worth of oil products it consumes per year, he added.
