Kuwait Oil Tanker Co., or KOTC, has started deploying armed guards aboard oil and natural gas tankers to protect them against pirates, the state-run Kuwait News Agency, or KUNA, reported Tuesday, citing Bader Alkhashti, the firm's chairman and managing director.

The company, which has 24 tankers, has agreed with security-service providers to use guards trained and armed to handle dangerous situations, Alkhashti said, according to KUNA.
