The Trans-Anatolian natural-gas pipeline, which will transport gas from Azerbaijan to Turkey and Europe , could be completed by the start of 2018, an official from Azerbaijan 's state energy company SOCAR said Tuesday.

"Construction work will start in 2013 and will be completed by the start of development of stage two of the Shah Deniz gas field," SOCAR's head of investor relations Parviz Babayev told the 6th Caspian Oil and Gas Trading and Transportation Conference.

Turkey and Azerbaijan agreed in June to build the Trans-Anatolian pipeline (TANAP), the first stage of which will deliver 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe and 6 billion to Turkey . SOCAR has an 80% stake in TANAP; the rest is owned by Turkey 's Botas and TRAO.
