Belgian authorities are investigating the murder of a manager for U.S. energy giant Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), who was shot dead earlier this month, while his wife was seriously injured.

"All lines of inquiry are being pursued," Genevieve Seressia, a spokeswoman for the investigating judge, said Friday.

Nicholas Mockford died after being shot three times on the evening of Oct. 14, while his wife was severely beaten, but not shot. The couple had left a restaurant on the outskirts of the Belgian capital at the time of the shooting, Ms. Seressia said.

Exxon said in a statement that there is no indication the murder is linked to Mr. Mockford's work.

"Mr. Mockford was a department manager at our office close to
Brussels , but we have no indication that the incident was work-related," Exxon said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues and we are supporting them as best we can at this very difficult time," it said.
