Cyprus-based trading house Gunvor Group is looking to enhance its growth in Asia with the appointment of Julien La Chon as head of development for the region, a source close to Gunvor told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday.

In his new role, the former managing director of Gunvor's
Singapore office will focus on exploring and developing business opportunities in the region where there is "a strategic value for Gunvor to be present," the source said.

Dikun Yin, a member of Gunvor's trading team in
Singapore , will take over Mr. La Chon's role as managing director and will be supported by a management committee including Muriel Schwab, the company's regional chief financial officer, Stephane Degenne, head of crude and Patrick Martin, head of products, the source said.

Gunvor is one of the world's largest independent commodity trading companies by turnover. Its
Singapore office opened in 2007 and is the company's fastest growing trading office.
