Romanian energy output fell 2.1% on the year to 19 million metric tons of oil equivalent in the first 10 months of 2012 due to declining production in the hydropower and nuclear sectors, official data showed Friday, news agency Mediafax reports.

Hydropower output decreased 23.2% on the year to 10.5 billion kilowatts hour, while nuclear energy production was down 2.4% to 9.49 billion KWh, the country's statistics institute INS said.

Thermal power production rose 2.2% on the year to 27 billion KWh in January through October, while wind farm production more than doubled to 2 billion KWh, from 930 million KWh in the same period of 2011.

Romania's primary energy resources fell 2.1% on the year to 28.4 million tons of oil equivalent in the first 10 months, while electric energy resources were down 3% to 49.8 billion KWh, the data showed.

Final power consumption reached 43.8 billion KWh in January through October, up 0.2% from the same period of 2011. Public illumination rose 6% on the year, while household consumption was up 1.1%.
